BIO
Dr. Nguyen is a postdoc trainee at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). His expertise includes developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) theories, applying AI - visual analytics in BioHealth Informatics, building Bioinformatics databases, and Bioinformatics application in cardiovascular science. At Purdue University, he built the ‘Selective Decentralization’, which was a collection of methods, theoretical analysis, and simulations for multiple AI agents to coordinate in solving large-scaled Adaptive Control / Reinforcement Learning problems. Applying AI techniques in Computational Biology, he built DeCoST, an AI-based simulation technique to predict cancer-specific drug efficacy. At UAB Informatics Institute, he developed the Clinotype Prediction and Association-finding (CPA) framework, which linked disease-phenotypes, genotypes, and clinical lab test results to help to identify high-risk cohorts. Besides, he built Polar Gini Curve, a new Bioinformatics technique to analyze single-cell transcriptomic data. He also contributed to the construction of bioinformatics databases: HAPPI (v.2.0), DMAP and PAGER (v.1.0) as the data analyst. In Health Informatics, he served as the data analyst and database engineer (trainee) in HealthTerrain, a visual analytic system for large-scale medical records. At UAB Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, he continue applying AI to solve Cardiovascular research problems, including identifying master regulators for neonatal pig heart development, cardiomyocyte proliferative response to injury, and analyzing Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes data.
